“It’s more fun to help than to be dazzled by something.”

In a world where self-interest often prevails, one college student’s actions serve as a shining example of integrity and compassion. Ivy B. Tocol, a second year college student taking Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Management, recently found herself in a situation that tested her character – and she emerged as a true heroine.

As she passed by the comfort room in Kalibo Pastrana Park, something caught her eye on the said area. Upon closer inspection, Ivy realized it was an expensive, designer watch – the kind that most individual could only dream of owning.

In that moment, Ivy was faced with a choice and said: “I was torn between taking the designer watch or leaving it – worried the owner might return, but also that someone else might take it and not return it. Despite the watch’s nice design, I decided the best thing was to turn it in to the collector, so the owner could easily get it back if they came looking for it.”

Many individuals and even the staff was impressed by Ivy’s honesty and commitment to doing the right thing.

After a brief investigation, the watch was successfully reunited with its owner through the help of the authorities. And the owner, who had been devastated by the loss, was overjoyed to have his prized possession back.

Ivy’s selfless deed has not gone unnoticed by the Northwestern Visayan Colleges community. Her professors and peers have praised her for embodying the core values of the hospitality field – empathy, service, and a relentless pursuit of one’s feeling.

As Ivy continues her academic journey, she carries this experience as a powerful reminder of the impact one person can have. Her act of honesty and kindness has not only reunited a lost item with its owner but has also inspired others to not prevail the self-interest for your own gain, showcasing the true spirit of integrity.

It’s about prioritizing the needs of others over personal gain indeed.

She left an remarkable quote saying: “Whether expensive or not, if it’s not yours, give it back, It’s more fun to help than to be dazzled by something.”
