โ€œFilmmaking is more than just capturing moments; itโ€™s about weaving stories that reflect the realities of society.โ€

On April 8, 2026, at the NVC ASQ Building, The NVC Forum Publication gathered film enthusiast students of Northwestern Visayan Colleges for an insightful activity titled โ€œFundamentals of Film and Media Productions.โ€ The event was held as part of the institutionโ€™s 78th Foundation Ceremony.

The program opened with welcoming remarks from Editor-in-Chief Ms. Jean T. Gelito, who warmly greeted the participants and highlighted the deeper purpose of visual storytelling, not just as a craft, but as a powerful medium to inspire, move, and bring ideas to life.

The invited speaker, Ms. Kristine V. Sumugat, is a respected filmmaker, cultural worker, researcher, and co-founder of Musyon Film Productions. With notable works such as โ€œOSMANโ€ and projects recognized on prestigious platforms like Cinemalaya and Gawad Urian, she brought both expertise and inspiration to the session.

During her talk, Ms. Sumugat explained the fundamentals of media production in a clear and engaging manner. She discussed the different types of films, introduced key film agencies in the Philippines, highlighted the three stages of production, and demonstrated to the students how camera angles and framing work.

As the session drew to a close, Ms. Sumugat shared personal stories from her journey in the film industry. One of her most impactful messages resonated deeply with the audience: โ€œTamang pakikipagkapwa-tao, hindi pera, ang magpapaikot ng mundo. Hindi porkeโ€™t probinsiyana/no tayo, hindi na natin pwedeng marating ang mga bagay na magaganda sa buhay natin.โ€

Her words served as a reminder that success is not defined by where we come from, but by how we treat others and how far we are willing to go to pursue our dreams. Indeed, knowledge shapes our experiences, and our experiences, in turn, shape who we become.
