President Angelo Quimpo, in a recent address during the Sangguniang Kabataan Mandatory Training (SKMT) at the Aklan Training Center, highlighted the significance of funding, sustainability, and collaboration in youth development initiatives. Quimpo, shared, “With a great idea you create a vision, with a vision you attract people, with people you can create possibilities.”
The event held by the Aklan PYDO on June 1, 2024 sought to introduce newly-elected youth officials on significant factors of governance. Maximizing the effectiveness of the group work, Quimpo said, “You need friends to make things happen and it cannot be done by anyone alone.”
The SKMT program, in accordance with Republic Act No.10742, also known as the “Sangguniang Kabataan Reform Act of 2015,” focuses on equipping SK officials with the necessary skills and knowledge. Attendees learn about the history of SK, planning and budgeting, meetings and resolutions, code of conduct, ethical standards, decentralization, and local governance.
Moreover, the law mandates all newly-elected SK officials and members to participate in the SK Mandatory Training Program. Failure to attend this training may result in disqualification.
President Quimpo’s insights underscore the importance of continuous learning, collaboration, and ethical governance in nurturing the next generation of leaders. The SKMT serves as a crucial platform for capacity building and fostering responsible leadership among youth officials across the nation.
