In the first semester of 2023, poverty incidence was estimated at 22.4% among the population in the Philippines and this affected around 25.24 million Filipinos. For example a typical family of five would need to have PhP13,797 monthly just for food and other basic needs during this period. Also, subsistence incidence, which represents Filipinoโs whose income is not adequate to buy even basic food requirements, was at 8.7%, affecting about 9.79 million people Monthly food threshold for a family of five amounted PhP 9,550.
Based on the Philippine Statistics Authority’s 1st Semester 2023 Official Poverty Statistics report, here are the top 20 provinces with the lowest poverty incidence:
– 0.5% Ilocos Norte
– 3.7% Pampanga
– 4.6% Siquijor
– 5.4% Apayao
– 6.2% Aklan
– 6.3% Kalinga
– 6.4% Benguet
– 8.3% Batangas
– 8.5% Guimaras
– 8.8% Cagayan
– 8.9% Rizal
– 9.1% Cavite
– 9.3% Ilocos Sur
– 9.4% Tarlac
– 9.5% Laguna
– 10.0% Batanes
– 10.1% Ifugao
– 10.6% Camiguin
– 10.8% Bataan
– 10.9% Nueva Vizcaya
Notably, Aklan emerges as the least impoverished province in Western Visayas. Among the six provinces and two highly urbanized cities in the region, Aklan had the lowest levels of poverty and subsistence incidence. As a result, Aklan is now classified as the province with the least poverty in the region.
