Jakarta, Indonesia – In a triumphant moment for the Philippines, Aklanon swimmer Jennuel Booh De Leon secured the nation’s first-ever Gold Medal at the 45th SEA Age Group Swimming Championships held in Jakarta, Indonesia. The remarkable feat unfolded on Friday morning August 25, 2023, marking a significant milestone in the country’s swimming history.
Competing in 16-18 Boys 50-meter Fly category, De Leon emerged as the champion, blazing through the pool with a record-breaking time of 25.40 seconds. His remarkable performance not only earned him the prestigious Gold Medal but also etched his name in the record books.
De Leon’s achievement was met with fierce competition from other top swimmers in the region. Bernie Elle Yang Lee of Malaysia demonstrated an impressive performance and clinched the Silver Medal with a timing of 25.49 seconds. Meanwhile, Thailand’s promising contender, Thanaseat Thanorntgitisakul, exhibited his skills and secured the Bronze Medal with a time of 25.72 seconds.
